Making art is for me an active and daily process. An intense desire for creative expression has been a passion of mine since early childhood. Growing up in a small town in southeast Missouri provided a childhood with many hours spent roaming the woodlands and rolling fields.
That fascination with exploring the landscape still exists for me as transforming my response into paint and pigment has become the focus of my artistic career. Nature continues to provide a powerful catalyst in the evolution of my work. There is always that moment when light falls on a subject in just such a way that the ordinary becomes extraordinary. Then that creative spark ignites the painting process.
I try to simplify the complexities of a particular landscape to a point of lyricism, garnering the sense of place and atmosphere that is particular to each location, and at a precise moment in time.
