	The intense, vivid colors and immediacy of application make pastels an individually expressive medium. The directness of the medium often brings a uniquely personal application - like handwriting. The brilliance of color is one of the most seductive characteristics of the pastel medium. Pastel must never be confused with colored chalk. Chalk is a limestone substance impregnated with dies. Pastel is pure pigment and has no liquid binder that may cause the surface to darken,fade or yellow with time. Pastels from the 16th century exist today as fresh as the day they were painted. My pastel paintings are created using the finest archival materials and pure fine art grade pigments.
